So why have I wrote a review about this iPhone App Development Tutorial? Well, like you, having been bitten by the iPhone bug, I was looking to develop a simple App for my IPhone, nothing fancy, just a simple App to allow me to ‘find my feet’ in the App Store.
I’ve reviewed a number of tutorials, but I couldn’t find a comprehensive review of ‘iPhone Development Secrets’. So I decided to do this iPhone App Development Tutorial, and hopefully help other aspiring App Developers like me.
What I find in the Tutorial?
This unbiased review will look at the good points and bad points, so if that’s something you don’t want to know, then please leave now.
I’ve found many an online iPhone App Development Tutorial or website that provide guidance on creating that ultimate App, but many fail to show you how to solve problems, answer simple newbie questions and also; which is a big gripe of mine; seem to be so out-of-date that the info contained now seems irrelevant. My other biggest moan seemed to be that App Developers didn’t want to share their secrets for fear of creating competition in the App Store (bear in mind there’s over 250,000 Apps available, so I do find this comical).
So what makes this iPhone App Development Tutorial special then? The author has gathered a vast amount of knowledge and resources from creating successful Apps, and put this into a comprehensive iPhone and iPad development tutorial. He shares these tutorials in a full multimedia course that is updated monthly with the latest content. This allows someone with absolutely no programming skills (or even a technical background) to fully understand. With ‘IPhone Development Secrets’, the author has made App Development achievable for everyone. This iPhone App Development Tutorial proves that you can start up your own app without any knowledge of anything app related! All you need is the idea! That’s the key.
The multimedia course is over 4 weeks, this iPhone App Development Tutorial takes you by the hand, and shows you step by step one of the easiest methods to creating your first ever App. I found this worked best, as rather than sit down and read, read, read, it actually allowed you time to understand why you were doing something. More importantly, this way seemed more ‘easy and fun’. There were no boring theories, no hard core programming and no useless stuff. Only practical information and step by step instructions!
Week 1 of this iPhone App Development Tutorial covers the great variety of basic information on how to start and apply yourself in different areas of game and application development: from creating your first “Hello World” application, to developing your first game with Cocos 2d toolkit. Did you know that Cocos 2d is considered one of the easiest ways of creating good Apps and will be the most used toolkit next year? I didn’t until I started this iPhone App Development Tutorial!
You will also discover how to create your first web application using iWebKit and animated application using Adobe Flash CS5. It also discusses how to debug your application and get rid of the bugs so you have all the knowledge necessary to dive into more in-depth information over the following weeks. It seemed almost painless.
Weeks 2 & 3 covers different iPhone development tools starting from simple Xcode to more advanced stuff like Cocos 2d & iWebKit secrets & tricks. Let me warn you – even if this may sound complicated – the information, tutorials and samples are put together in such an easily understood manner that you can feel yourself becoming an expert even if you are a total newbie!
These weeks also covered learning the 2d and 3d editing software for game and app development and some sort of “cheat”-kinds of software & tricks – for those of you who want to use advanced stuff without wasting months on learning it. The tutorial gives what you really need and doesn’t waste your time describing stuff you will never use!
As a result of week 3 you will have your first game or application ready to go!
Week 4 covers the most important part of the story – how to market your game and finally make money by selling it in the App Store. Let’s be honest – after all, you want to make good bucks with it, don’t you? A lot of good, fresh, updated stuff on how to market your game, and where to get the dirt cheap targeted traffic is included!
It also covers the most recent trends in game development – what genres are popular now and in the next year, what are the best converting ways to promote the game today and next year. This week alone is almost priceless.
So as a newbie to the App world who went cross-eyed when I opened the ‘Internet App Development for Dummies’ book, after 4 weeks of this fantastic multimedia course, my first App was accepted to the App Store. I can finally say I’ve made it and I’m now officially an App Developer. I probably won’t ever compete with Angry Birds, but I’ll give it a good go!
Good Points about course
- Most importantly, completely newbie friendly.
- Very easy to follow videos, holds your hand right through the development process.
- Inexpensive, constantly updated multimedia course.
- It’s great to make the world’s next best App, but you need it to be recognised. This tutorial provides essential marketing information.
- The most important part of App creation is how to sell it successfully and get on top of Apps Store sales. This tutorial helps you achieve this.
- I have to honestly say, hand on heart; this is the best App Development tutorial I have reviewed so far. This tutorial made the App Development process both enjoyable and accessible.
- A fantastic extra, this iPhone App Development Tutorial also assists with Ipad App creation. I’ve just purchased an Ipad 2 (with my well-earned money), so this is next.
Bad Points
- To be fair this can’t be blamed on this iPhone App Development Tutorial, but my interest would probably be described as a bit ‘geeky’ and therefore would never sell thousands and thousands. It has done very well though, even better than expected. Always remember this in the planning stage.
- This is not an overnight millionaire-maker! With all great ideas, it takes time. A lot depends on how quick you want to get developing and what your App will be about! Due to my work commitments, it took me a good 10 weeks from idea conception to release to the App Store. You could easily half this time.
